What the anonymizer preserves
- The two-letter country code and total electronic length.
- The original letter-versus-digit structure of the BBAN.
- A recalculated MOD-97 result of 1 for format-level validation.
- A cryptographically randomized replacement on each new generation.
What a checksum-valid replacement does not prove
The generated value is not checked against a national bank directory, account database or ownership service. It may fail domestic account-number rules and must never be used for a transfer, direct debit, accounting record or identity check.
Need to anonymize the whole invoice?
An IBAN is only one sensitive field in Peppol, UBL, CII and XRechnung XML. Company names, addresses, contact details, tax IDs, endpoint identifiers and document references can remain in the same file.
